About the role
We are seeking an Orion GN&C Engineer to join our team at GeoControls. This position offers the chance to contribute to NASA’s pursuit of deep space exploration, utilizing your expertise in GN&C flight software, algorithms, and spacecraft performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate safety-critical, human rated GN&C flight software
- Develop, integrate, and test new GN&C algorithms
- Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance
- Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for trajectory optimizations
- Provide recommendations for improvements in design and software development processes
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
- This position has been posted at multiple levels based on experience.
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Experience with Kalman filters
- Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and spacecraft system analysis
- Experience with development and analysis of 6 DOF algorithms and simulations
- Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles
- Experience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C software
- Experience with LINUX, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++
- Experience with Git/GitLab version control
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
- Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees
- Experience with Microsoft Office products
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning
- Experience with safety-critical, human-rated embedded software development
- Experience with Object oriented software development
- Experience with Agile software development
- Familiarity with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking
- Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements (including safety)
- Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures
- Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites
- Experience with the NASA Trick simulation architecture and JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics)
Skills
- Strong programming skills in LINUX, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++
- Experience with Git/GitLab version control
- Knowledge of 6 DOF algorithms and simulations
- Understanding of orbital mechanics and GN&C principles
- Experience with GN&C software development and testing
- Ability to work in a team environment
