About the role

The Organizational Development & Communications Specialist will assist with the daily functions of the Tax Office, including performing professional-level duties to support the implementation of the Tax Office’s communication goals and operations. The role involves coordinating communications, public information, media relations, and services, managing resources to provide timely information to media and citizens about motor vehicle and property tax processes in Tarrant County. The position also supports organizational development initiatives by assisting with internal training, communications programs, employee engagement activities, and evaluating communication effectiveness through surveys and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with field inquiries from media, the public, and professional communities as needed or directed.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the Tax Office when requested.
  • Assist with all aspects of media relations, including drafting news releases, editorials, brochures, workbooks, informational publications, reports, bulletins, PowerPoint and video productions, and website communications.
  • Organize and perform special research and other projects; write scripts and speeches.
  • Provide public information regarding the Tax Office and facilitate media requests for information and interviews.
  • Arrange news conferences, interviews, and media meetings to maintain ongoing communication between the Tax Office and the media.
  • Act as a resource for staff, constituents, and the public regarding Tax Office issues.
  • Develop, design, and produce print and video materials and publications for internal and external communications.
  • Maintain knowledge of skills, processes, and best practices in the area of responsibility.
  • Assist or train lower-level staff or interns; may direct the work of clerical and support staff.
  • Coordinate or assist with internal training sessions, employee recognition activities, and initiatives to strengthen internal communications and morale.
  • Track the effectiveness of communications through analytics, surveys, and post-training evaluations, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to articulate information and speak to groups of people.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, stay organized, and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Highly developed communication skills and techniques with verbal and written accuracy following Associated Press Stylebook guidelines.
  • Proficiency with computer graphics software, photography, and video.
  • Spreadsheet and/or word processing software experience or specialized software applications required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with employees across all Tax Office departments, media representatives, support staff, city and county officials.
  • Familiarity with survey/assessment tools, employee engagement strategies, and organizational development best practices preferred.
  • Ability to organize and effectively present ideas, concepts, and recommendations orally, graphically, and in writing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • One (1) year of experience writing and publishing public communications.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience in property tax and motor vehicle services.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and facilitate training and professional development activities.
  • Six (6) months of money handling experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience creating and publishing video content preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
