Responsibilities
- Prevent unauthorized boarding of the vessel when suspicious individuals are present.
- Inform non-marine vessel employees of unsafe acts or policy violations.
- Assist the Engineer/Oiler in transferring potable water or other fluids (Engineer/Oiler remains responsible for supervision and pollution prevention).
- Assist the Engineer/Oiler in routine vessel maintenance.
- Stand bridge watch and conduct regular vessel rounds, including machinery spaces, as directed by the Master, Mate, or Engineer/Oiler.
- Assist in mooring the vessel, anchoring, or setting the gangway.
- Perform all work safely using proper safety and protective equipment.
- Respond to emergencies according to assigned duties.
- Report hazardous conditions that may impact the vessel, crew, or environment to a supervisor.
- Perform all duties professionally and in accordance with high safety and environmental standards.
All physical requirements must meet USCG Physical Requirements as determined in NVIC 04-08.
