Order Picking / Receiving Specialist

About the Role

These positions involve handling lumber and building materials to fulfill customer orders, maintain inventory, and ensure smooth warehouse operations. Roles include Picking and Receiving specialties, with potential overlap in duties.

Responsibilities

Picking Position

• Accurately select, assemble, stage, and label orders according to customer and company specifications, verifying correct quantities.
• Inspect materials for defects or damage prior to loading for shipment and report issues to management.
• Assist in placing orders in customer vehicles, company vehicles, or trailers.
• Complete “pick tickets” timely and accurately.
• Maintain an organized and clean warehouse area.
• Assist in inventory and cycle counting processes as required.
• Adhere to all safety protocols while operating equipment and handling materials.
• May perform duties of a Receiving Specialist as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Receiving Position

• Receive, verify, and inspect incoming shipments of lumber and building materials, reconciling deliveries with internal purchase orders.
• Inspect received materials for damage or quality issues and report concerns to Operations management.
• Record and update inventory levels in the system, maintaining accurate records.
• Organize and store received materials in designated warehouse locations for efficient space utilization and accessibility.
• Coordinate with Purchasing to resolve shipment discrepancies or issues.
• Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment, adhering to company safety protocols.
• Participate in periodic inventory counts and audits as required.
• May perform duties of a Picking Specialist as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to operate a forklift safely.
• Previous experience in a warehouse or distribution environment, preferably in the lumber and building materials industry.
