About the role

The OR Technician LDRP will report to the Director of Maternal Child Health and work under the supervision of the Manager of Maternal Child Health. He/she will assist the Labor and Delivery Team in providing high-quality healthcare to patients requiring surgical intervention. This position requires knowledge of aseptic technique, principles of sterilization, and understanding of the purpose and use of surgical instruments. The role demands close concentration, a high degree of accuracy, and strong organizational skills to prepare, set up, and assist in various surgical procedures. The OR Technician LDRP will work both individually and as part of a team to uphold the highest standards in perioperative patient care.

This position requires a full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in all communications.
  • Works with staff to greet all patients as they enter the unit.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with peers, management, and physicians.
  • Communicates all necessary information to the Circulating Nurse and/or Clinical Unit Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Able to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task efficiently and effectively.
  • Able to work under pressure and act calmly and effectively in busy or stressful situations.
  • Follows all written policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment throughout the surgical procedure.
  • Maintains and monitors sterility of the surgical field/equipment/environment throughout the procedure.
  • Helps maintain cleanliness of the OR room after procedures.
  • Decontaminates, cleans, assembles, and sterilizes instruments when necessary.
  • Works in collaboration with the circulating nurse to ensure accuracy of sponge, needle, and instrument counts throughout procedures, as well as identification of surgical specimens in the Operating Room and, at times, in the Labor Room.
  • Sets up the OR room and verifies equipment functions properly before the procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and participates in providing high-quality, individualized patient/family-centered care within the Watson Model of Care, including key elements of Caring, Competence, Communication, and Commitment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an OB surgical setting preferred.
  • Basic Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Skills

  • Knowledge of current infection control practices, instruments, and sterilization procedures.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
