About the role

The Operating Room Technician at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is responsible for assembling supplies and equipment, preparing sterile instrument tables, assisting surgical teams, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Prepares sterile instrument table and gathers equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
  • Accurately completes sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports discrepancies.
  • Positions patient according to the type of surgery and provides comfort and support pre-operatively.
  • Transports patients to and from the surgical suite.
  • Assists surgical team during procedures, including passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
  • Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies as needed.
  • Maintains a safe work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST).
  • Prior experience as an OR TECH.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • One year minimum experience as an OR TECH.
  • Preferred completion of an Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Properly handles specimens, identifies them correctly with the physician, maintains specimens during the procedure, and checks with the surgeon before passing off the field. Obtains specific supplies, non-narcotic medications, and equipment as per preference cards and makes arrangements for special supplies.
