OR RN (Circulating Nurse)
Banner Surgery Center – Desert, managed by Atlas Healthcare Partners, is located on the Banner Desert Medical Center campus in Mesa. This adaptable surgery center offers exceptional care and outstanding customer service to patients and physicians, featuring six operating rooms and one procedure room. About the Role
This full-time position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to provide care appropriate to patients' physical and developmental age.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
- Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
- Reviews diagnostics, laboratory data, and reports abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
- Completes assessments and reassessments as outlined in policy and based on patient needs.
- Formulates and initiates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Develops realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient and family, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to plan and revise care based on changing patient needs.
- Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities.
- Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
- Evaluates patient and family responses to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
- Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and accuracy.
- Provides care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
- Participates in shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
- Promotes growth through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
- Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care, including participation in professional organizations.
- May provide relief charge duties for staff and workflow management in some locations.
- Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, and professional standards.
- Demonstrates core and leader behaviors consistently to provide an excellent service experience.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to pediatric services.
- Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in the OR (other procedural areas considered with Support Center Clinical Educator approval).
- Licensed RNs with no OR experience must be enrolled in the PeriOp101 program and complete it successfully within 4 months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional OR or perioperative licensed RN experience is strongly preferred.
