OR Assistant/Equipment Specialist

About the role

Responsible for assisting with the maintenance, education, and use of surgical equipment in the OR. This includes knowledge of manufacturers’ manuals and IFU (information for use) to assist with education, patient positioning, and movement to ensure safety. Additional duties involve patient transporting, equipment transport, environmental cleaning, and equipment inventory. Considered an essential member during emergency conditions.

Schedule

• 40 scheduled weekly hours
• Morning shift: Monday through Friday, 5:45 AM to 2:15 PM
• No call and no weekends
• Must be flexible in work schedule and participate in an “On Call” rotation if needed

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient positioning before, during, and after procedures and during skin prep
• Demonstrate and coordinate training on the correct operation of equipment to clinical personnel in collaboration with surgical leaders and clinical educators
• Confirm the correct equipment is assigned and ready for the appropriate OR and case/procedure
• Respond to the demands of the OR and function under the direction of the RN
• Collaborate with Biomed and Information Technology for Equipment Management
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Hospital experience required
• Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses (e.g., American Heart Association, American Red Cross) with manikin check-off
• Customer service-oriented with a positive and professional attitude
• Excellent communication skills and attentiveness to detail
• Ability to logically analyze problems and implement quality solutions
• Must complete assigned projects by scheduled deadlines
• Willingness to learn about new equipment applications and accept new procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• OR experience preferred
