Multi-unit role supporting territory Optometrists (ODs) and Lead Clinical Assistants (LCAs) by providing guidance on best practices to ensure the highest level of patient experience. Collaborates with the Clinical Director (CD) and Territory Director (TD) to identify growth opportunities and provide support for optimal business excellence. Involved in hiring, onboarding, training, and mentoring of ODs and LCAs in the territory.
Responsibilities
- Practice Optometry in accordance with clinical guidelines set forth by the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry, in addition to any applicable state board statutes.
- Comply with HIPAA policies and maintain complete/accurate patient records.
- Practice at each store location at least once annually performing eye examinations and observing patient flow; provide input to maintain efficiency and promote best practices.
- Maintain state(s) licensure for territory and act as an ambassador by leading by example.
- When providing direct patient care:
- Identify, address, and follow up on all patients’ ocular medical conditions; prescribe treatment or refer to other medical professionals as needed.
- Ensure all patients’ visual lifestyle needs (spectacles, contact lenses, sun protection) are met or exceeded.
- When not providing direct patient care, monitor patient flow and serve as backup when exam demand exceeds doctor supply.
- Lead and partner with CDs, TDs, ODs, LCAs, and General Managers (GMs) to drive key success indicators (e.g., OD retention, chart review completion, slot capacity, OSAT).
- Guide ODs and LCAs in developing best practices to provide the highest quality of patient care related to general and ocular health.
- Maintain regular communication with all assigned Doctors, LCAs, and retail colleagues.
- Travel to locations to coach ODs and LCAs on efficiency, quality patient care, and best practices through store visits, trainings, and calls.
- Collaborate with Visionworks store teams, including effective communication with all office and store associates to ensure a seamless patient experience.
- Daily review and analysis of key metrics, reporting, and dashboards.
- Prepare PowerPoints and present material as needed.
- Elevate the importance of patient care, education, and quality service to promote the belief that everyone can benefit from an annual eye exam and retinal imaging.
- Actively lead process improvement to maintain comprehensive exam requirements while delivering efficient, clinically appropriate eye care.
- Review key success indicators and identify opportunities to provide support for achieving best practices.
- Communicate with GMs, OD Scheduler, TDs, and Talent Acquisition team on OD and LCA staffing needs; participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
- Assist the Talent Acquisition team with onsite networking events for Doctors.
- Responsible for onboarding, mentoring, training, and development of ODs and LCAs.
- Conduct bi-annual chart reviews for all ODs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to communicate gaps and provide ideas to optimize clinical functions supporting patient care and experience.
- Provide support in resolving issues in partnership with the TD, GM, and HRBP, including Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and Associate Performance Notices (APNs) for Doctors and Lead Clinical Assistants.
- Provide input regarding updates to the Clinical Manual and training materials; participate in specialist projects and other duties as assigned.
- Review Doctor time-off requests and schedules in partnership with the OD Scheduler.
Requirements
- Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.), including TPA certificate of licensure.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical practice experience with current knowledge of optometric technology and practices.
- Valid state Optometric license and TPA (Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent) level license in the state of practice.
- Successful completion of background check/credentialing process.
- Use of specialized equipment for interpreting and diagnosis (e.g., automated equipment, Optomap, Video Slit Lamp).
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), excellent time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Supervisory experience or skills in coaching, mentoring, and training preferred.
- Business aptitude, self-discipline, and ability to deliver outstanding patient service.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations regularly.
- Provide a professional workspace without distractions to permit uninterrupted time with patients and colleagues.
- Provide internet service with sufficient speed to meet upload and download requirements.

Training Requirements
- Training/ability to diagnose, treat, and manage eye disease; refer patients to other healthcare practitioners as necessary.
- Maintain state Optometric license, accreditation, and TPA level licensure.
- Meet state continuing education requirements.
- Complete company compliance training, privacy training, and Medicare Fraud & Abuse training.
- Successful completion of remote exam training through Digital Optometrics.
- Proficiency in required system platforms including Dayforce, Power BI, OTX/Eyefinity, Zipline, Zoom or MS Teams, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands
- Work flexible schedule(s) to meet business demands, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for most of the workday.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, pick, or pinch.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 20 pounds.
- Moderate noise level in locations (e.g., use of computers, printers, and machines).

Pay
$61.18 – $84.13 hourly plus an annual stipend.
