About the Role
An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist, assisting in providing a world-class Total Patient Experience. This team member handles a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Optometrist.
Responsibilities
- Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients while delivering great medical support
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
- Practice urgency at all times, placing value on a patient's time as well as the doctor's time and schedule
- Facilitate patient flow and assist the doctor in preliminary testing
- Verify medical and vision insurances
- Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
- Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
- Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX, or OCT
- Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.)
- Clean all examination equipment including tonometer tip
- Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager
- Consistently create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
- Commitment to work hours that meet the needs of the business, which may include weekends, schedule changes, or an extended schedule
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Excitement to learn and grow
- Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Favorable result on background check as required by state
- Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
- Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times

Schedule
Offices are open Monday–Friday 8 am–6 pm, Saturday 8 am–1 pm. You may need to work a little earlier and/or later as needed. You will not work all of these hours, but you must have open availability to work any shift within these hours.
Physical Requirements
This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions:
- Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
- Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
- Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time
- Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
