Optometric Technician

About the role

Vision To Learn is a nonprofit organization providing vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to K–12 students in underserved communities across the U.S. at no cost to them or their families. Our mission is to remove vision barriers that affect learning and long-term opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee assigned inside lane eye exams operation.
• Maintain optimal professional standards.
• Pre-test children before seeing the optometrist.
• Assist patients with frame selections to ensure optimal fit and patient satisfaction.
• Conduct vision screenings using a Welch Allyn Spot Check Vision Screener.
• Complete and prepare daily reports, and meet deadlines.
• Make follow-up calls to patient caregivers for feedback.
• Study and follow Vision To Learn health and safety protocols.
• HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• Optometric experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license required, with a good driving record and familiarity with greater Newark area geography and with phone GPS; driving transcript must be provided.
• Successful track record of working with children and diverse types of people.
• Must pass company and CMS background checks and drug test.
• Experience using Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Word; Prior optometric EHR/EMR charting experience, and ability to quickly learn project management systems.
• Bilingual English/Spanish written/verbal communication skills a plus.
