Optometric Technician

About the role

At AEG, you'll work alongside Optometrists to support all aspects of patient care and education, ensuring exceptional care for patients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, including dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Perform verbal interviews with patients to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit, providing details to the Optometrist.
• Schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
• Record and maintain patient records in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
• Respond to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, and problems, referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.), documenting medical findings and communication in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Ensure maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation, daily appointment confirmation, contacting patients from recall listings, contacting no-shows or canceled patients to reschedule.
• Perform contact lens insertion and removal classes (I&R), manage the contact lens trial inventory, check-in and take contact lens orders in person or by phone.
• Perform end-of-day responsibilities, including opti-schedule wrap-up, end-of-day checklist, etc.
• Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal of the practice.
• May be asked to act as a scribe for the Optometrist or perform refractions.

Requirements

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients’ records / files per HIPAA regulations.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• PC skills to include MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.
