Optician
Patient Assistance
Aid patients with eye wear selections. Ensure frame and lens options align with the patient's prescription, comfort, and insurance coverage.
Lens Parameter Measurements
Accurately measure pupillary distance, base curve, optical centers, and multi-focal measurements to guarantee prescription accuracy.
Dispensing/Repairs
Adjust and dispense eyewear. Explain proper usage and cleaning instructions for frames, lenses, and contacts. Perform frame repairs as necessary.
Charting
Maintain medical records/charts in compliance with policy and protocols.
Inventory/Orders
Assist with inventory management and re-stocking. Place orders and receive glasses from GLBHC lens lab and external labs following set guidelines.
Quality Assurance
Ensure orders received meet ANSI standards. Contact patients for available pick-up within an appropriate timeframe.
Collections
Verify insurance eligibility for services and materials. Interpret authorizations to accurately determine patient fees and copays. Collect payments from patients in accordance with GLBHC policy.
Job Specifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Licensure: Active BLS certification required. Board certification pursued preferred.
Experience: Optical experience preferred. Additional on-site training may be required.
Skills: Ability to type with speed and accuracy. Computer skills and knowledge of office equipment required. Effective communication and problem-solving abilities needed.
Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk throughout the workday. Lift, carry, push, pull, and twist up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
Hours of Work: Full-time; flexible and varied. Regular and timely attendance required. Telecommuting not an option.
Travel: Not required for this position. Reimbursement for expenses consistent with GLBHC policy if needed.
