About the Role
Join our team at Midwest Eye Consultants as an Optician! As an integral part of our team, you'll educate patients on the latest lens technology to optimize their vision while also honoring their personal style and curating an enjoyable shopping experience. This position blends administrative skills—such as calculating insurance co-pays and managing optical lab orders—with creative talents in maintaining optical merchandise displays.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting spectacles, providing education on quality choices, lens selection, and frame styling to fit their lifestyle and prescription.
- Calculate insurance co-pay based on eligibility.
- Accurately enter spectacle orders and monitor status daily to ensure timely delivery.
- Receive spectacle orders, verify accuracy, notify patients, and schedule dispensing.
- Contact patients for follow-up on adapting to dispensed eyewear and prescribed contacts.
- Perform spectacle adjustments and repairs as needed.
- Troubleshoot patient concerns with eyewear.
- Educate patients on the care of prescribed eyewear.
- Maintain inventory for the optical retail area, including lab supplies, and report as required.
- Maintain displays of optical merchandise.
- Monitor patient flow and communicate delays to other departments.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the doctor and practice leadership.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively and provide superior customer service to foster long-lasting patient relationships.
- Creative design skills for maintaining optical merchandise displays.
- Strong administrative skills for tasks such as calculating co-pays, reviewing insurance eligibility, and preparing lab work orders.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, grasp, type, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
- Visual and verbal acuity to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in assigned tasks.
- Regularly lift up to 15 pounds from floor to waist, 5 pounds from waist to shoulder, and 5 pounds from shoulder to overhead.
