About the role
Opticians play a crucial role in our business, ensuring patients receive the right eyewear and accessories tailored to their needs and lifestyles. They also provide exceptional service to build long-term relationships with patients.
Responsibilities
- Sell eyewear and accessories to patients
- Fit patients with appropriate frames based on their needs and lifestyle
- Dispense lenses with correct prescriptions and measurements
- Provide patients with detailed explanations of customized recommendations for products and services
- Develop a loyal customer base through excellent service and referrals
- Stay updated on company and industry products, manufacturer rebates, and lens/frame options
- Take and return patient calls, updating them on order status and resolving issues
- Retrieve and update patient charts and electronic health records
- Aid patients in choosing frames, lens types, and treatments, considering individual needs and measurements
- Educate patients on proper eyewear and contact lens care
- Measure eyes and faces to ensure proper fit
- Interpret prescriptions and create work orders for lab technicians
- Follow up on orders, verifying they meet time guidelines and informing patients of status
- Inspect and adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort
- Use tools like pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, frame warmers, etc.
- Communicate with technicians and managers, providing additional information or tracking order statuses
- Clean and polish lenses, maintain store cleanliness, and restock merchandise
- Answer patients' questions about insurance, warranties, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, promotions, etc.
- Collaborate with technicians, front desk associates, managers, and optometrists
- Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, and safety glasses
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- One year of experience as an Optician preferred
- Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding customer service skills and experience with sales preferred
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Dependable and punctual
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand for up to 8 hours per day
