About the role

The Retail Sales Associate (Retail Optician) assists patients in selecting eyeglass frames, lenses, and lens coatings that best suit their needs. You’ll ensure lab technicians have accurate measurements and prescription information, and you’ll dispense completed glasses to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, and store policies regarding payment, returns, and exchanges.
  • Compute and process payment transactions and refunds using the in-house Point of Sale system.
  • Process insurance claims efficiently.
  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge.
  • Create and maintain patient files in compliance with company and HIPAA confidentiality policies.
  • Assess and interpret patient needs based on prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and occupation; recommend appropriate frames, lens types, and coatings.
  • Take necessary measurements, such as pupillary distance.
  • Prepare detailed work orders for the lab, including patient information, prescription, lens specifications, measurements, and special instructions.
  • Pull correct lenses according to work order specifications.
  • Inspect final products for accuracy and adjust completed glasses to fit the patient using pliers, heat, or manual techniques.
  • Perform adjustments and repairs on damaged frames, replace nose pads, and fix missing screws.
  • Price, stock, and straighten merchandise.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience working in retail, customer service, or sales.
  • Experience in the optical industry is preferred but not required; we provide training.
