Optical Engineering Lead

About the Role

We seek a Lead Optical Engineer to design, analyze, and develop advanced optical and electro-optical systems for aerospace and defense applications.

Responsibilities

• Support optical system architecture, performance modeling, and technical problem-solving throughout product development
• Lead or assist in optical engineering activities for imaging, sensing, and EO systems
• Evaluate system behavior including straylight and ghosting
• Generate technical documentation
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and integration
• Troubleshoot and resolve optical performance issues
• Support hardware builds, testing, and verification
• Interface with stakeholders and suppliers
• Contribute to risk management and process improvements
• Mentor junior engineers

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience (or equivalent experience in lieu of degree)
• Ability to obtain security clearance

Skills

• Preferred experience with optical straylight analysis tools (e.g., FRED)
• Experience with space-based EO/IR systems
• Proficiency with optical metrology equipment and design software (CodeV, Zemax)
• Strong communication, teamwork, and project management skills
• Experience with programming languages such as Matlab and Python
• Active security clearance is advantageous
