Your Specific Responsibilities
- Employee will provide basic nursing services as allowed by LPN scope of practice to students under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.
- Administers first aid, daily medications, and emergency medications to students and/or staff as requested and ordered by a physician. This includes intermittent clean catheterization, gastrostomy tube feeding, and monitoring blood glucose.
- Organizes and assists with state-mandated health screenings such as hearing/vision, scoliosis, and body mass index.
- Maintains a clean health unit/work area and performs periodic inventory of medical supplies.
- Keeps accurate and timely records/documentation of all work performed.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all staff members.
- Assists the health screening team with implementing/scheduling all health screenings for school district students in state-mandated grade levels. Collects and inputs screening data into HMS as required. Sorts and prepares mailings to parents/guardians of screened students, including notifications and phone contacts.
- Attends School Health in-services as scheduled, completes mandated training, submits timesheets and mileage in a timely manner, and submits Daily Reports in a timely manner.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Utilization of equipment: Computer (email, attachments), print, fax, and telephone skills, and data entry knowledge.
- Ability to keep accurate records; ability to document utilizing electronic records.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others through speech and writing.
- Ability to work with children and adolescents.
- Able to respond to emergency situations (running) and lift up to 10-20 lbs (emergency equipment).
- Ability to climb stairs (in the case of 2-story school or elevators are out).
- Ability to acquire CPR certification and physically able to perform CPR correctly.
- Ability to assist a student into and out of a wheelchair and be able to push and maneuver wheelchair over uneven surfaces for an extended period of time.
- Ability to bend to retrieve documents from file cabinet or items under cabinet.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Florida LPN license. Must be able to acquire CPR and First Aid prior to on-boarding. Experience working in a medical setting. Must possess a current, valid Driver’s license. Must have transportation to travel to Brevard Public Schools in Brevard County, FL. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Preferred: Experience working in a Pediatric medical setting.
