Ophthalmic Technician - Tier 2

About the role

Responsible for daily patient care flow. Performs data collection functions as delegated by the physician and/or Clinic Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Acquaint all new patients with office procedures.
  • Obtain patient history including chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history, family history, and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks for new and follow-up patients: vision acuity, lensometry, entrance tests, contact and non-contact tonometry, refraction, slit lamp exam, angle assessment, and dilation.
  • Manage patient flow efficiently, ensuring minimal wait times and a smooth patient experience.
  • Maintain and clean all equipment being used while adhering to strict infection control protocols and safety standards.
  • Maintain utmost patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Technician (COT) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or surgical assistant.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic instruments, procedures, and terminology.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems (NextGen experience is a plus).
  • Excellent organizational skills and diligence.
  • Ability to travel daily.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, colleagues, and health care professionals.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and patient needs.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records systems.
  • Full work up responsibilities and based on knowledge and skills also responsible for either clinical assistant or scribing or basic testing tasks.

Pay

The compensation range for the role is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
