About the role
Tennessee Eye Care - Harriman, a division of Summit Medical Group, is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join their practice. This is a full-time opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the patient to see Attending Physician (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing)
- Preparation of examination and treatment rooms
- Performing basic and routine vision screening examinations
- Administering eye medications
- Cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments
- Aiding physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures
- Training other assistants
- Acting as a scribe for the physician
- Assisting with patient education
- Performing lensometry, refractometry, basic muscle balance testing, tonometry, assessing pupils, confrontation visual fields and gross external exam
- Administering diagnostic tests
- Initiating patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in compliance with guidelines
- Assisting with patient education
- Administering topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician
- Completing requests for prescription refills as authorized by the physician, with full documentation in the patient chart
- Educating patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician
- Aiding in in-office procedures ensuring proper consent is obtained. Responsible for set-up and clean-up from procedure
- Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday
- Complying with all practice procedures and protocols, complying with all state and federal regulations
- Reporting suspected potential errors to supervisor or compliance officer
- Maintaining a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
- Returning patient phone calls/answering questions or concerns
- Opening and closing exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner, battery-powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
- Following all safety procedures as per guidelines
- Performing related work as assigned
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED. Experience: None required, 1 year ophthalmic experience preferred. Certification/License: None Required. (COMT) Certified Ophthalmic Technologist Credential Preferred.
