About the role

Join our winning team as an Ophthalmic Technician and play a vital role assisting our physicians. You will be cross-trained to perform a range of administrative and clinical duties, including preparing patients, conducting vision screenings, administering medications, maintaining instruments, and supporting minor surgical and laser procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Interaction & Clinical Intake
    • Greet and communicate with patients and families in a caring and respectful manner.
    • Document chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and pertinent patient information.
    • Coordinate and obtain prior authorizations for medications per insurance requirements.
  • Pre-Exam & Diagnostic Testing
    • Perform pre-exam testing: visual acuity (with pinhole and glare), confrontational visual fields, extraocular muscle testing, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, angle assessment, and dilation.
    • Conduct advanced diagnostic testing: OCT, fundus photography, IOL Master, Pentacam, A-scan, B-scan, Wave Scan/Vario, keratometry, lensometry, and visual field testing.
    • Perform specialized testing: color vision screening, stereopsis, dry eye testing, optical biometry, and refractometry.
  • Procedure & Treatment Support
    • Assist with in-office minor surgical procedures and laser treatments.
    • Complete prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician with proper documentation.
    • Track, document, and communicate laboratory results to physicians and patients.
    • Educate patients on medication use and provide pre- and post-operative instructions.
    • Assist with contact lens fittings and instruct patients on insertion, removal, and lens care.
  • Equipment & Inventory Management
    • Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies, pharmaceuticals, and instruments.
    • Inspect and assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment; report damage and coordinate repairs.
    • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterilization.
    • Shut down and clean diagnostic testing equipment as needed.
    • Check and record medical refrigerator temperatures daily; monitor supply dates and manage inventory.
  • Clinic Readiness & Administrative Support
    • Open and close exam rooms daily, including cleaning equipment, charging devices, and securing instruments.
    • Assist with opening and closing the clinic as needed.
    • Follow all safety protocols and clinic procedures.
    • Monitor and respond to work emails; utilize shared tools such as Google Drive.
    • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient privacy.
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in training and educational opportunities to remain current with best practices.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required or enrolled within one year and completion within two years of hire.
  • Strong customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Skilled in problem-solving with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable engaging in face-to-face interactions with patients and staff.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Schedule

Rotating schedule – including days, evenings, and weekends.

Pay

Hourly pay rate: $24.50.
