Summary

SVML Ophthalmic Technicians combine exceptional work ethic, high energy and an outstanding personality, with a strong dedication to patient satisfaction. Our ophthalmic technicians are highly organized with the ability to plan and prioritize their work for optimal efficiency. They demonstrate both technical and clerical knowledge and have the ability to effectively adapt to a fast-paced team environment. They are reliable, responsible, dependable, honest and ethical. They are socially perceptive to patients’ needs and feelings. They have an understanding of their impact on Company outcomes and results and are dedicated to producing superior work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cook conduct tests to measure intraocular pressure.
  • Measure visual acuity.
  • Take patient medical histories.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications.
  • Conduct visual field tests.
  • Operate, clean and maintain ophthalmic/surgical instruments, equipment and facilities.
  • Take measurements of the eye.
  • Measure lens power.
  • Absist physicians in performing surgical procedures.
  • Conduct ocular motility tests.
  • Communicate telephonically with patients regarding scheduling or to inquire about post-operative status or recovery.
  • Absist with Laser Vision Coordinator overflow.
  • Execute core processes.
  • Manage inventory process and order supplies.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. At least one year of experience as an ophthalmic, optometric, or medical technician preferred.
  • Language Ability: Fluency of the English language. Excellent oral and written comprehension and expression. Speech clarity and recognition. Active learning and listening. Ability to respond to common inquiries and provide information to patients and colleagues. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Math Ability: Ability to use mathematical methods or formulas for related medical and scientific measurements and calculations. Ability to calculate percentages. Ability to compile, tabulate, or verify information or data.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to collect data and establish facts. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to use logic. Ability to identify information by categorizing and recognizing differences or similarities.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Calendar and Scheduling Software, Medical Software, Internet, Data Entry
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and arms to handle, grasp, position, move and control objects and tools; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; and maintain a stationary position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to make repetitive motion and demonstrate steadiness and control precision. The employee is required to operate in close quarters and have contact with patients.
