Ophthalmic Technician

About the role

The Ophthalmic Technician is a vital member of the eye care team, responsible for assisting ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions. They perform various clinical and technical duties to ensure the efficient delivery of eye care services across all 5 locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized eye exam testing while streamlining patient flow.
• Conduct diagnostic testing, including Visual fields, OCT, Corneal Topography, and Venipuncture.
• Assist with inventory of ophthalmic supplies, including pharmaceuticals and instruments.
• Provide phone support for prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician.
• Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

• One year of experience as an ophthalmic technician.
• One year of experience in a customer-facing position preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification preferred.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to stay focused.

Schedule

Work Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM; closing days 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
