About the role

An Ophthalmic Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting ophthalmologists in providing eye care services to patients. They assist with both clinical and administrative tasks, contributing to the efficient operation of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized eye exam testing while streamlining patient flow
  • Conduct diagnostic testing such as Visual Aids, OCT, Corneal topography, etc.
  • Provide phone support for prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy
  • Assist with opening and closing duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • One-year experience in a customer-facing position preferred
  • Medical-related experience preferred
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Proficient in the use of the internet
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:15 AM to 4:15 PM (all 5 locations)
