Operator Technician
Job Scope
The Operator Technician supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the manufacturing facility. This role involves developing a thorough understanding of production processes and supporting operations to achieve production objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Operating and supporting manufacturing processes to maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
- Developing and applying a thorough understanding of production processes and systems.
- Performing operational duties and housekeeping activities required to maintain production units.
- Following work instructions, operating procedures, and supervisor guidance.
- Supporting the achievement of Huntsman operational and business objectives.
- Participating in and completing all required company training programs.
- Actively supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) initiatives and safe work practices.
- Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
- Working collaboratively with team members to support plant operations and production goals.
- Maintaining compliance with applicable environmental regulations and procedures related to regulated materials, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements, when applicable.
- Utilizing process control systems and computer-based tools to monitor and support operations.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
The candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Education: Technical degree, Vocational/Technical Training, AIDT Industrial Training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, chemical processing, paper manufacturing, industrial operations, or related environment. Successful completion of a technical assessment demonstrating knowledge of basic manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Skills and Knowledge: Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices, ability to follow procedures and work instructions accurately, strong teamwork and collaboration skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic manufacturing environment, self-motivated with strong personal initiative, demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, good housekeeping and continuous improvement mindset, computer proficiency, including the ability to utilize office software and process control systems, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
Preferred qualifications include:
- A.S. degree in Pulp, Paper, and Chemical Technology or a related technical discipline.
- Direct plant experience as a Chemical Operator in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Experience within a paper manufacturing facility.
- Maintenance, instrumentation, or electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Operator certification.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and RCRA waste handling requirements.
Working Environment
Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to industrial equipment and production processes. 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Occasional call-in requirements to support operational needs. Must be able to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requires adherence to all Environmental, Health, Safety, and operational procedures and standards.
