About the role

Accomplish the processing or packaging of frozen food products made on the production lines at the Brunswick facility by performing certain tasks involved in directing other team members and meeting quality specifications and production needs. Contributes to the profitability of the Company by performing tasks in a safe, efficient, quality-conscious, and cost-conscious manner and by working in a cooperative manner with his/her Team Leader and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the processing or packaging of product to meet quality specifications and production needs.
  • Perform specific tasks associated with this process including:
    • Ensure equipment is set up to run properly.
    • Know and maintain the correct specifications for the product being cased on the line.
    • Ensure the correct materials are brought to the line; notify Forklift Driver if incorrect materials are present.
    • Ensure adequate team members are staffed on the line and in key positions to achieve quality and productivity levels.
    • Train Production Workers and Production Operators.
    • Periodically check operations visually and physically (using temperature probes, tachometers, stopwatches, etc.) to ensure quality and production goals are met; correct team members' work if goals are not met.
    • Notify Production Team Leader immediately of any problems and work with the appropriate person to resolve them.
    • Maintain break and lunch rotations to ensure team members receive appropriate break time.
    • Communicate with team members during the shift regarding problems.
    • Rearrange workflow and people as necessary to resolve problems.
    • Maintain area up to plant housekeeping standards; assign cleaning tasks as needed.
    • Prepare all paperwork required for quality and production records.
    • Communicate with Group Leaders from previous and following shifts about any issues during the shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum lifting requirement is 20 pounds, from approximately 6 inches off the ground to up to shoulder height. Maximum lifting requirement is up to 65 pounds over the same distance and occasionally above shoulder height, depending on job assignment.
  • Punctual and reliable work attendance.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Apply all safe work practices associated with these tasks; work in a safe manner always.
  • Apply all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements, including personal hygiene and housekeeping; maintain a clean work area in line with plant procedures on housekeeping, wastewater, and solids management.
  • Apply all product safety and quality requirements associated with the process at assigned positions.
  • Identify product or processing problems on an ongoing basis; determine if solutions are within training and knowledge. If so, correct the problem; if not, communicate to the appropriate person for resolution.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Team Leader, other managers, and co-workers; resolve problems and conflicts in an acceptable and respectful manner.
  • Understand the overall impact of the job on team productivity and plant profitability; maintain high personal productivity and contribute suggestions for work process improvements.

Qualifications

Since the work requires physically handling cheese and other ingredients on a regular basis, severe allergic reactions to these food materials or any processing ingredients (such as flour, baking soda, baking powder, phosphates) would preclude a person from performing the essential functions of this position. Allergies to cardboard (or its dust), latex (used in gloves), or chlorine (used as a food and surface disinfectant) would also preclude a person from performing the essential functions of this position.
