Operator - Right of Way & Trail Maintenance
About the role
The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis oversees four precincts in Harris County, serving as the administrative head of the county's government. Precinct One, represented by Commissioner Rodney Ellis, covers approximately 1.17 million residents across 363 square miles. It is a diverse, urban precinct with a multi-racial and multi-ethnic population comprising 33% African American, 38% Latino, 21% Anglo, 6% Asian, and 2% other or multiple races. The precinct includes Downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center, and several universities.
Responsibilities
- Maintain right of ways and assigned trails by cleaning ditches, trimming branches, and bushes, and picking up trash.
- Operate and repair mowing equipment, including commercial mowers, weed trimmers, shovels, and rakes.
- Inspect equipment and vehicles daily, reporting issues to Fleet Management.
- Comply with safety protocols and precinct policies and procedures.
- Complete safety training and professional development initiatives.
- Report all accidents and injuries to your manager and complete the proper paperwork.
- Assist team members in prioritizing and completing assigned projects and proposed projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Operator II: Three (3) years of experience in a similar environment.
- Operator III: Five (5) years of experience in a similar environment.
- Operator IV: Seven (7) years of experience in a similar environment.
- Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B).
