Operator PBX Receptionist PRN
About the Role
A PBX Operator handles a commercial telephone switching system, providing basic customer service by managing and directing incoming calls, routing them to the correct individual or department, or sending them to voicemail as needed. This role also involves addressing basic questions about the hospital, such as hours of operation and directions, handling all hospital codes, and remaining calm under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls and assist callers by transferring calls to appropriate areas.
- Page physicians and hospital personnel using the public address system and pagers.
- Initiate emergency procedures and monitor multiple alarms and the HEAR radio system.
- Maintain accurate records of emergency events, alarms received, and on-call sheets.
- Provide backup for patient information.
- Perform all assignments while delivering excellent customer service to all callers.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED.
- At least one year of experience operating a switchboard or as a receptionist with multiple line phone responsibility preferred.
- Good typing skills.
- Multiple line phone or switchboard skills preferred.
- Basic computer skills; experience with Word and Excel is helpful.
- Proven customer service skills, particularly in working with the public and in emergency situations, preferred.
