Responsibilities

  • Performs and coordinates skilled maintenance and operational activities
  • Operates a variety of specialized construction and maintenance equipment or tools
  • Performs skilled operational activities and provides technical knowledge regarding assigned functions
  • Ensures proper procedures are followed and service quality levels are maintained
  • Inspects, maintains, and performs basic repair of concrete, traffic signals, drainage, and mowing
  • Maintains and repairs street pavement and asphalt
  • Maintains and replaces culverts
  • Maintains vehicles and equipment
  • Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
  • Subject to 24-hour recall for overtime, including during emergency situations (e.g., natural or man-made disasters)
  • May be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties during emergencies or evacuations

Requirements

  • Applicable Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinances
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials relevant to the assigned area
  • Experience with specialized equipment relevant to the area of assignment
  • Utility vehicle operation techniques
  • Adherence to safe work practices
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Pool Technician Certificates (strongly preferred)
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, travel, and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment.
