Operator I, Manufacturing - First Shift

About the Role

As a Manufacturing Operator at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Microbiology Division, you will carry out the production process by closely following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Standard Work Instruction Documents related to assembly, materials handling, equipment operation, and finished goods packaging. This role supports food, clinical, and pharmaceutical environments by manufacturing and distributing culture media and other microbiological diagnostic products.

Responsibilities

• Follow all written procedures and report discrepancies in SOPs, DHRs, etc., to the Area Supervisor.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required and refer to job-specific Safety Analysis.
• Perform all work activities safely and maintain a clutter-free work area; clean up spills immediately.
• Listen to, follow, and relay written and verbal instructions in English.
• Report property damage and/or safety hazards to Supervisor, Human Resources, Safety Specialist, or Senior Management.
• Document work accurately and check personal work for quality and compliance.
• Continuously supervise product for defects.
• Operate assigned machinery safely, perform simple maintenance, make adjustments, and report malfunctions immediately.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including all assigned equipment.
• Read, understand, and complete required documentation accurately and neatly.
• Set up and adjust machines to operate a variety of sizes and types using tools.
• Actively engage in process improvement suggestions.
• Encourage an atmosphere of partnership.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• No previous work experience required; however, experience in manufacturing, operations, production, lab settings, or a cGMP environment is preferred.
• Ability to communicate efficiently in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic math skills.

Environmental Conditions

• Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance; up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
• Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.
• Cleanroom environment: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair allowed.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (around 10 hours per day).
• Ability to use push/pull force of up to 80 lbs.

Schedule

First Shift (Days). Additional shift differential available for 2nd and 3rd shift positions.
