About the role
Operators observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards. They adjust machine components and machine tension and pressure according to size or processing angle of product, remove finished packaged items from the machine, and separate rejected items.
Responsibilities
- Work effectively and efficiently with teammates to package products.
- Monitor packaging machines to identify and correct malfunctions.
- Adjust machine components, film tension, and pressure based on product size or processing former.
- Stop or reset machines when malfunctions occur, clear jams, and report issues to a supervisor.
- Regulate machine flow, speed, or temperature.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free work area.
- Perform metal detector verification to ensure product is free of metal.
- Complete paperwork including downtime logs, machine logs, and batch orders.
- Assist with team direction during changeovers and cleaning.
- Report safety matters or malfunctions to the line lead or supervisor.
- Perform job functions within required General Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Understand and use production standards and specifications; advise when producing inefficiently.
- Keep accurate and legible documentation.
- Work with maintenance to troubleshoot machine problems.
- Verify product meets quality standards; count and record finished and rejected packaged items.
- Clean, oil, and make minor adjustments or repairs to machinery and equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
- Demonstrate cooperative behavior with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
- Basic math, communication, computer, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate in English and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Mechanical skills to troubleshoot or make adjustments for quality product output.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
- Stand on a concrete floor for extended periods.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform).
- Bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work weekends during peak season and mandatory overtime as needed.
- Maintain good attendance as a condition of employment.
- Work well under pressure and meet multiple or competing deadlines.
- Keep work area clean at all times.
