About the role

This role is responsible for operating a significant producing unit, including advanced setup, calibration, and changeovers when necessary. The Operator A will operate high-speed stamping presses, auxiliary equipment, and annealing & cleaning lines while ensuring the resulting product meets Wieland quality and appearance standards. In addition, the Operator A will be responsible for record-keeping and productivity, while directing both the equipment and support crews. They may assist and, in some cases, lead the Maintenance and/or Electrical Technicians to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. May perform or lead maintenance functions as required. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machinery to maintain production rates and product quality requirements.
  • Read and understand production schedules to determine processing sequences, furnace temperatures, and heat cycle requirements for processing.
  • Monitor and maintain critical input variables such as temperature, concentration, pressure, flow, and other key elements required to maintain product quality.
  • Monitor and accurately record production and quality-related data promptly; maintain data entry requirements within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and operated per Wieland policies and health and safety regulations; report service requests as needed.
  • Safely operate a forklift following Wieland’s forklift training guidelines and standards.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance department to complete tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Follow directions from department leaders.
  • Work with team members to achieve department goals.
  • Inspect the work area routinely to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Adhere to Wieland and OSHA safety procedures and job-specific safety practices, and report issues to the Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
  • Follow daily procedures, work instructions, control plans, and protocols outlined during orientations and training.
  • Attend meetings and refresher courses to ensure proper equipment operation.
  • Assist in other departments as required.
  • Perform general laborer tasks as required.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping of the warehouse and work area.
  • Perform routine inspections of products as needed.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Adherence to health and safety regulations, including consistent use of protective gear.
  • Ability to read and understand packaging and shipping documents.
  • Competency in reading a tape measure, micrometer, and vernier caliper.
  • Ability to work to a high standard of accuracy within a timely manner.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machine quality issues.
  • Fundamental math skills.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Capability to stand, walk, and reach with hands or arms for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Occasionally climb stairs.
  • Dependable and consistent attendance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity for handling and manipulating items.
  • Strong judgment and ability to ask questions when needed.
  • Attention to detail and consistent alertness to ensure safety.
  • Prioritization of safety in all tasks.
  • Ability to stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and walk while handling products.
  • Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Metals manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Three years of manufacturing experience preferred.

Pay

Starting Pay: $33.77

Schedule

Rotating Swing Shift

Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly
