About the Role

This is a senior-level operations leadership position responsible for Inbound and Outbound Warehouse, Fleet Services, Facilities Management (including building, grounds, power industrial equipment, sanitation, security), Transportation (including routing, delivery, and backhaul), and all Operating Systems. The role involves achieving key performance metrics, managing expenses, executing strategic initiatives, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and maintaining safety and security. The position reports directly to the Region President with a dotted line to the Market Vice President of Operations and is a member of the site leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver site-level execution of key corporate, market, and regional Operations initiatives.
  • Drive exceptional customer service through on-time delivery and post-ship service levels.
  • Champion continuous improvement across all Operations departments by promoting efficiency ideas and cost-reduction measures.
  • Create a culture of care and collaboration within the site and implement all aspects of Operations Connections.
  • Adjust departments’ activities, policies, and practices to meet or exceed key performance metrics, customer service goals, and on-time deliveries.
  • Prepare and execute the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) with direct input from the management team.
  • Oversee operating budget management, including labor, benefits, supplies, company assets, capital investments, depreciation, maintenance, repair, and third-party contracts.
  • Evaluate fiscal metrics and adjust activities to meet or exceed performance expectations.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure upgrades and repairs are completed efficiently.
  • Perform management functions, including staff selection, compensation, development, discipline, performance reviews, and terminations.
  • Actively support other departments in achieving site and region goals.
  • Collaborate with the Region Leadership team to build the business case for expansion, modernization, and facility reconfiguration.
  • Drive a culture of compliance with internal and external policies and regulations, ensuring timely and accurate inspections and audits (e.g., food safety documentation, DOT records, EPSM, PSM).
  • Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
  • Create a safety culture to reduce or eliminate operations-related injuries, accidents, damage/loss of product or equipment, and unnecessary costs.
  • Assist the Safety Director with training initiatives.
  • Ensure contingency systems, practices, and protocols are in place to eliminate business disruption.
  • Establish emergency response or crisis management plans and coordinate with local emergency management entities.
  • Participate in company meetings and presentations to solicit new or prospective business and foster the company’s recognition within the business community.
  • Oversee or participate in the interpretation, adherence, and negotiation of collective bargaining agreements where applicable.
  • Maintain associate relations through regular department meetings, open communication, and addressing associate morale and engagement.
  • Interpret, train, and enforce Company policies and procedures consistently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a closely related field.
  • 10 years of professional experience with demonstrated progressive levels of management experience, including at least 5–7 years in operational management; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience in warehouse and transportation.

Skills

  • Ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic and problem-solving in practical situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of spreadsheet and word-processing software, with the ability to learn Sysco technology software and programs.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and environmental regulations/legislation.
  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
  • Ability to apply relevant policies consistently, objectively, and in a timely manner.
  • Capability to work collaboratively with peers and associates across departments, sites, and the business community.
  • Ability to work in a disciplined manner, following established procedures and complying with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to manage pressures and stress associated with deadline-oriented environments and customer service issues.
  • Demonstrated skill in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and climb or balance.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions, as well as moving mechanical parts and confined spaces.
  • Works non-traditional business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
  • May occasionally travel to other sites, regions, or the corporate office as business needs dictate.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
