About the role
The Water Resources (WR) program within the Department of Ecology is seeking an Operations Unit Supervisor (Environmental Planner 5) to oversee a statewide operations and technical unit supporting various core business areas such as water resources permitting, data management, compliance and enforcement, and technical analysis.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a statewide operations and technical unit supporting core regulatory work.
- Build and sustain statewide consistency, establish standard operating procedures, and provide technical service delivery to the program on projects of statewide significance.
- Manage priority operations-related process improvement projects.
- Facilitate and lead statewide business teams.
- Help set the strategic direction for these teams and their work plans.
- Lead the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act implementation and integrate environmental justice into core program work.
- Coordinate with the Office of Equity and Environmental Justice on new agency-level guidance.
Requirements
- Experience supervising a technical unit.
- Knowledge of water resources permitting, data management, compliance and enforcement, and technical analysis.
- Ability to build and sustain statewide consistency and establish standard operating procedures.
- Experience managing priority operations-related process improvement projects.
- Experience facilitating and leading statewide business teams.
- Experience setting strategic direction for teams and their work plans.
- Experience leading the HEAL Act implementation and integrating environmental justice into core program work.
- Experience coordinating with the Office of Equity and Environmental Justice on new agency-level guidance.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, public policy, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a related field.
- Experience working in a state agency or similar organization.
- Experience in supervising a technical unit.
- Experience in water resources permitting, data management, compliance and enforcement, and technical analysis.
- Experience building and sustaining statewide consistency and establishing standard operating procedures.
- Experience managing priority operations-related process improvement projects.
- Experience facilitating and leading statewide business teams.
- Experience setting strategic direction for teams and their work plans.
- Experience leading the HEAL Act implementation and integrating environmental justice into core program work.
- Experience coordinating with the Office of Equity and Environmental Justice on new agency-level guidance.

Pay
$75,120.00 - $101,052.00 Annually
Schedule
