Primary Purpose

Plan, develop, and execute a standardized custodial training program that covers all aspects of safety, cleanliness, efficiency, scheduling, and equipment use in custodial operations. Observe and ensure staff adhere to quality standards and best practices in custodial services.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED, preferred Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to read, follow, and issue instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate personnel to accomplish tasks Broad knowledge of school housekeeping Ability to operate and train in heavy cleaning equipment and the proper use of cleaning supplies Knowledge of work order and inventory software, timekeeping system, and office software Ability to speak, read, and write English Bilingual in Spanish, preferred Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to the position
  • Experience: Minimum three years of supervisory and training experience with custodial staff, preferably in an educational environment

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • Program Management: Work cooperatively with principals and supervisors to ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations. Collaborate with the Custodial Services and Facilities Rental Manager in matters pertaining to cleaning and maintaining buildings; development and implementation of equipment standards, cleaning standards, supply and product standards, and training. Develop and administer a master training program for all operations staff, and administer systemic training for substitute custodians, custodians from all shifts, and supervisory staff at all levels. Inspect facilities to ensure cleaning and safety standards are maintained. Ensure cleaning equipment, supplies, and chemicals are properly used and maintained. Provide administrative assistance as needed. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Personnel Management: Provide supervisory oversight for all aspects of the department. Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for custodial staff related to scheduling, computer use, work order system, and customer service; and counsel employees as needed or document behavior and conduct. Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of staff performance and refer for further training as needed. Conduct training at alternative times as necessary to accommodate staff work hours. Promote teamwork and high standards among staff. In the absence of Custodial Services and Facilities Rental Manager, oversee daily operations of the custodial department.
  • Other: Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours). Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff and the public. Report and manage repairs through the Facilities online workflow. Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

  • Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, use of computer mouse, overhead reaching, driving
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis
  • Visual: Use of depth perception; distinguish basic colors
  • Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; on rooftops; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperatures and humid conditions, electrical hazards, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise and vibration; work around moving objects and vehicles, ladders, scaffolding, pallet jacks, and lift equipment; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent driving; frequent districtwide travel
