OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN II - PUB SEC
About the role
The Operations Technician (Network Operation Center Environment) supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other specialized customers in support of National Cyber Protection System (NCPS) initiatives. They are responsible for fiber maintenance, technical support, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables within multiple program networks.
- Support routers, switches, servers, and firewalls in a Data Center and office environment.
- Perform network troubleshooting and fault analysis; handle hardware troubleshooting and repairs.
- Develop and follow Maintenance Operating Procedures (MOP); anticipate and proactively address issues.
- Generate and respond to trouble tickets; interface with customers and escalate issues as necessary.
- Monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Tier 12 events in switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with peers and customers.
- Willingness to work shift work, including 24x7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation.
- Familiarity with Juniper (JunOS), Netscreen Firewalls, SolarWinds, Cisco Networking Hardware.
- Experience with application-level firewalls (proxies).
- Active Top Secret (TS) clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret SCI (TSSCI).
Qualifications
- Associates degree in a related field or equivalent work experience in the communications, networking, or cybersecurity fields.
- Understand layer 2 and layer 3 technologies (BGP, VLANs, Trunking, ACLs, IPSec, and L2TP).
- Basic enterprise Linux skills, VMWare, SQL, and Basic Windows Server Administration.
- Familiar with Network Monitoring tools.
- Ability to work in a consultative manner with others, establish rapport, interview, fact-find, present options, recommend solutions, follow-up, and exhibit customer-focused behavior.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment with changing requirements and competing priorities.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Schedule
Shift work 24x7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation.
Location
Based Pay Ranges: $63,954 - $85,272 in Virginia (VA).
