Machining

  • Operate Machines: Loads starting material into machine and unloads machined part from machine. Deburr parts as necessary for inspection and safety. Perform daily housekeeping and maintenance checks. Coordinate machine maintenance and PMs. Adjust tool offsets and other machine offsets.
  • Set-Up Jobs: Install and align holding fixtures and accessories on machines. Align and secure cutting tools into machine. Retrieve and download CNC programs. Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions and adjust set-up as required.
  • Tooling: Recognize tool wear. Adjust tool offsets as necessary. Identify correct tools and change them in the machine. Select alternate tools and prove them out to improve machining processes.
  • CNC Program: Read CNC programs line-by-line. Edit CNC code to improve processes. Create programs using software like MasterCam, Part Maker, and Esprit.
  • Manual Inspection: Use standard hand tools and specialty inspection devices to ensure parts are fabricated within specifications. Interpret CMM data to notice quality trends and issues. Use alternate inspection methods.
  • Quality System & Documentation: Read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Fill out Quality System paperwork. Verify and sign off first and last piece inspections. Alter Green Folder and notify Process Engineering.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Operate more than one machine simultaneously. Assist in scheduling work to enable efficient operation. Work flexible schedules for training and issues.
  • Training: Train other employees in basic equipment operation. Ensure employees are fully trained to perform job descriptions. Provide input for annual performance reviews and disciplinary discussions. Mentor apprentices.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Identify and resolve problems related to machine, workholding, material, tooling, and CNC program. Independently gather and analyze information to develop solutions and resolve problems.
  • Process Design & Development: Provide technical information and guidance to Engineering and Quality regarding process design. Assist in starting-up new parts with assistance from engineers and programmers. Assist in assisting programmers and engineers on more complex parts.
  • Repairs & Reworks: Independently set-up and rework parts on CNC and manual machines. Analyze cause of discrepant material and provide remedial, corrective, and preventive actions.

  • Change Management: Develops workable implementation plans. Communicates changes effectively. Prepares and supports those affected by change. Monitors transition and evaluates results.
  • Business and Cost Consciousness: Displays orientation to profitability. Aligns shop with strategic goals of the Business Unit. Supports / implements cost-saving measures. Contributes to profits and revenue. Conserves organizational resources.
