About the role

Within a division, the Operations Supervisor – Hauling Operations supervises collections activities in one or more lines of business (commercial, residential, roll-off (industrial), and/or container delivery and pick-up) across a geographically dispersed area. The role oversees drivers and helpers, collaborates with the Operations Manager and General Manager to implement tactical initiatives driving functional excellence and budget achievement, and ensures compliance with safety, environmental, operating, regulatory, accounting, and ethics standards.

Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Provide leadership to achieve and communicate safety goals and objectives.
    • Remove unsafe conditions or situations from drivers’ routes.
    • Collaborate with the sales team to identify and eliminate unsafe conditions for new routes or customers.
    • Partner with the maintenance department to ensure equipment compliance with safety standards.
    • Oversee safety and accident prevention programs to prevent accidents and injuries, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
    • Engage employees in active participation to instill a culture of safety through personal commitment and outreach.
  • Customer Experience
    • Deliver service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
    • Understand and meet or exceed missed pickup goals.
    • Resolve service requests, equipment breakdowns, and schedule changes with timely stakeholder communications.
    • Interact with customers to solve issues and improve the overall experience.
    • Serve as a positive company representative to drive satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Efficiency
    • Establish and ensure adherence to productivity goals and operating standards.
    • Manage labor hours and disposal expenses per established plans.
    • Lead drivers to exceed productivity goals for all routes.
    • Create, modify, and improve routes to maximize density and efficiency.
    • Reduce route hours through techniques like service conversions and container upsizing.
    • Execute operational plans to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
    • Support service delivery while actively contributing to fleet quality and maintenance.
  • Employee Engagement
    • Foster a collaborative, communicative team environment to drive engagement.
    • Build and develop team talent, aligning with employees’ career goals and providing advancement coaching.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
