Responsibilities
- Screen, select, hire, train, develop, and evaluate personnel to meet service commitments.
- Adhere to wage and hour laws and compensate personnel in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensure safe working conditions at each job site.
- Develop and implement an effective preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
- Schedule and conduct safety meetings, documenting attendees and topics covered.
- Ensure employees follow safety guidelines and perform duties safely.
- Maintain necessary records and manage inventory of supplies and materials.
- Operate equipment as necessary.
- Conform with applicable federal, state/provincial, and local laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in the waste industry (landfill or transfer operations preferred).
- One (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Combination of education and/or experience.
- For Transfer Stations: Must possess a SWANA certified transfer station operator within 60 days of hire.
- For Landfills: Must have one (1) year of experience operating a horizontal baler and bobcat/forklift, and successfully complete training for certification in the removal of Freon and handling of hazardous materials (e.g., motor oil, lead-acid batteries, PCBs, CFCs, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instruction and procedure manuals, routing reports, and correspondence.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform all required duties.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Physical/Mental Demands
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
- Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
- Work in an outdoor environment 70% of the time.
- Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Occasionally work in high or precarious places.
- Noise level is usually loud.
Pay
$75–$80k + 20% STIP eligibility
