Operations Supervisor

About the role

The Operations Supervisor oversees full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers, manages work sites, purchases materials, and maintains inventories and equipment. The supervisor is responsible for supervising staff in the Pavement and Sewers & Signs sections.

Responsibilities

• Supports and upholds the City's mission and values.
• Develops and assigns work orders and short/long term work plans for various public infrastructure.
• Safely supervises staff in checking, repairing, and maintaining City streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, accessible ramps, and equipment.
• Identifies and repairs problems in the aforementioned systems.
• Participates in planning and coordinating construction projects, snow removal, and special events.
• Calculates equipment, materials, and labor costs for each job completed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of work experience in a Public Works construction-related field.
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a Public Works construction-related field.
• Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in Public Works construction.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and City Public Works construction and safety regulations.
• Ability to effectively supervise others and enforce practices and procedures to ensure effective long-term maintenance and repair of public infrastructure.
• Knowledge of industry construction standards like Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction in Illinois, Illinois Department of Transportation Standards for Road and Bridge Construction, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
• Skilled in the safe use and care of equipment and tools.
• Knowledge of basic algebra and accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pavement Section: Substantial prior on-the-job experience in concrete construction or repair, asphalt construction or repair, and/or construction or repair involving other pavement types.
• Sewers & Signs Section: Substantial prior on-the-job experience in sewer construction or repair, sewer cleaning and televising, traffic control devices and pavement marking installation and maintenance, and street sweeping methods and procedures.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $82,970.9359 - $136,902.0556 per year; the starting annual range is $82,970.9359 - $109,936.5009.

Schedule

The position is full-time, management/exempt, civil service.
