About the role
The Operations Superintendent assists the Operations Manager in planning, leading, guiding, directing, and managing a small or single business unit site. This role ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and all applicable laws while focusing on product quality, employee safety, facility profitability, budget management, and human resources utilization.
Responsibilities
- Maintain required safety and ergonomic programs to ensure a safe working environment and meet the company goal of an injury-free workplace.
- Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee and work toward reducing injuries and cost per claim.
- Ensure all staff and employees understand HACCP, SSOP documents, CCPs, and the HACCP plan.
- Minimize product failures and foreign material issues.
- Assist the Operations Manager in overseeing the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the plant, including all supervisors.
- Handle interviewing, hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisal, rewards, discipline, and conflict resolution for employees.
- Train, manage, and direct all support staff activities, including Safety, Food Safety/QA, HR, accounting, maintenance, and production supervision.
- Ensure all operational aspects align with company standards and facilitate a profitable, efficient, and safe production of quality products.
- Establish achievable goals, track progress (yields, labor, expenses), identify opportunities, and implement solutions.
- Ensure operations conform to specifications and procedures for efficiency and profitability.
- Foster approachability and support for all employees, maintaining positive team dynamics and open communication.
- Develop accurate fixed and capital budgets for annual planning and ensure operations adhere to cost and budget targets.
- Directly manage plant labor variance, raw material utilization, yields, supplies, and waste reduction to positively impact the company’s P&L.
