Position is remote with potential for some travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).

About the role

This requirement is for analyst research subject matter expertise to assist with overall studies and analysis for a government customer, focusing on the impact of conditions identified during accession to the Air Force on longer-term outcomes such as duty performance and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in statistical analysis of Air Force accession conditions and their impact on long-term outcomes (e.g., duty performance, retention).
  • Perform statistical analysis of existing datasets and create new datasets for analysis in SAS/Enterprise Guide (SAS/EG).
  • Scope and design projects, develop and monitor timelines, and produce progress reports.
  • Assist in creating stratification methods for dataset analysis based on ICD codes or other relevant criteria.
  • Develop theoretically driven statistical models to explore relationships between variables in AVHE environment datasets and Air Force outcomes of interest.
  • Perform validation and verification protocols under guidance, ensuring study products meet expected standards, and assist in corrections if models underperform.
  • Draft written communications for internal and external purposes.
  • Participate as an expert in health statistics in interdisciplinary planning and analysis.
  • Acquire necessary data access permissions to perform tasks.
  • Use Air Force medical records systems and standards in job duties.
  • Utilize relevant data repositories and collect data from various databases pursuant to agreements with owners.
  • Establish relationships between available data and existing datasets, map data elements, code for specific elements, establish data storage architecture, and create comprehensive data dictionaries.
  • Provide conference support through active participation, preparation of posters/presentations, and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts to distribute study products.
  • Brief study findings at appropriate meetings or forums as determined by the Government.
  • Provide technical automation support for MS Windows, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Publisher), MS SQL, and Adobe.
  • Support data creation and administration for model development, analysis, and publication.
  • Document computer code used in products to allow government personnel to review, approve, or generate copies as required, adhering to USAFSAM programming standards and commercial practices.
  • Assist in briefings and document production to transfer knowledge of study products to customers in the Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS) and broader Air Force.
  • Provide technical oversight on methodologies, analyses, and reports generated to address requests from DAF leadership regarding accession waiver policies and their impact on readiness, retention, and force health.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Operations Research with at least three years of experience in the field. A PhD is preferred.
  • Current HIPAA training to access and process identified medical data.
  • Advanced analytical skills in statistics, study design, and execution.
  • Expertise in descriptive statistics and Statistical Analysis System/Enterprise Guide (SAS/SAS EG).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with statistics in a healthcare or military environment.
  • Willingness and ability to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to pass a Tier I/SF85 background investigation.

  • Five or more years of experience in analysis within the medical field or military is highly desired.
