Operations Project Managers

The Utah Data Coordinating Center (DCC) at the University of Utah seeks a highly analytical and strategic Operations Project Manager to support research strategy, portfolio oversight, and cross-functional initiative execution within the Associate Director of Program Delivery and Portfolio Management's portfolio. This part-time (19 hours/week), non-benefitted position contributes to strengthening operations, improving portfolio visibility, and providing support on the programs and projects within the portfolios.

About the role

This position will plan and execute internal operations/non-technical projects from initiation through delivery. Gather required data from end users to evaluate objectives, goals, and scope to define deliverables. Focus on execution and managing the functional elements of the project. Ensure that all targets and requirements are met and are completed on schedule and within budget. Work closely with various internal departments to ensure successful completion of projects. Keep leadership informed of key issues that may impact project completion, budget, or other results.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for the various projects that are under the ownership of this role. Ensure delivery to agreed time, cost, and quality parameters.
• Ensure project goals are achieved on time in alignment with the stakeholders' expectations.
• Manage both large, small, simple, and complex projects.
• Escalate and remove blocks to progress.
• Ensure all risk and issues associated with owned projects are recorded and managed in the appropriate Risk & Issue logs in a timely manner, according to project standards.
• Ensure all Risks and Issues have clear action/mitigation/contingency plans defined, with named action owners and timelines for completion.
• Contribute to the development of talent and capabilities as a member of the team.
• Use experience to bring new ideas and to identify and challenge ineffective practices.
• Collaborate with others to improve IT delivery methodology covering tools, sourcing, processes, and quality assurance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalency) plus 6 years of directly related work experience, or master's degree (or equivalency) plus 4 years of directly related work experience.
• 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience.

Preferences

• Experience in IT Project Delivery
• Experience in Operations Management
• Certification or experience in continuous improvement methodologies

Schedule

Part-time, 19 hours per week. Monday – Thursday. Mostly remote work option available, with occasional on-campus meetings required at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. This position requires the employee to reside in Utah and be within commuting distance of the University of Utah campus.

Pay

Expected pay: $44,000 (minimum). This is a Career-Level position in the General Professional track.
