Operations Manager of Public Safety
Position Summary
The Operations Manager of Public Safety is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Public Safety Department at Boston Medical Center (BMC). This includes managing staff, developing standard operating procedures, and ensuring consistent and safe delivery of services throughout the medical center. The role requires immediate notification and response to disasters, collaboration with facility personnel, directors, and managers, and utilizing BMC and Public Safety Department core values and principles.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties
Reports to the BMC Director of Public Safety and manages 24/7 operations of the Public Safety Department, including the Security Command and Control Center.
Schedules staff to meet operational needs, assigns duties, and coordinates training and activities involving services provided by the department.
Utilizes independent judgment to ensure staff who fail to meet performance standards receive remedial training, corrective action, and discipline, up to and including termination.
Provides consistent direction to all employees within Public Safety and organizes staff as response-driven, customer-focused, and service-oriented teams that support the university, department, and mission.
Continuously monitors quality of service and develops proactive training programs to continually increase the professionalism of the staff.
Participates in regulatory/compliance processes and oversees those processes that impact Public Safety, including CDC Select Agent program, HIPPA, CALEA, and CORI guidelines.
Attends various meetings, committees, task forces, etc. as requested.
Provides assistance/resources to BMC staff or departments as requested.
Meets with regulatory or law enforcement agencies as assigned by the Director of Public Safety and fulfills the mandated regulations for security officer's police licensure.
Aids in preparing annual operating and personnel budgets, capital budget expenses, service and maintenance contracts, and variance reports.
Submits payroll and maintains records of hours worked by employees.
Recommends operational plans including, but not limited to, the use of contracted services, scheduling methods, contingency actions, investigations, human resource functions, evaluations, and labor issues.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required.
Management and/or Criminal Justice degree preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in corporate, medical center security, or Law Enforcement, with at least three years of supervisory responsibility.
Knowledge and Skills
Software including WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Knowledge of facilities management and security alarm systems.
Must possess the ability to lawfully possess a firearm for the purposes of law enforcement employment.
Compensation
$78,000.00 - $113,000.00
