Operations Manager

About the Role

The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth for the store. The OM leads a team of Task Associates and the Merchandise Manager (MM), supporting the management of store operations, including realignments, planograms, and inventory life cycle processes. This leader drives the store’s retail business through performance, people, and process, requiring a passion for operational excellence and the ability to lead and develop their team.

Responsibilities

• Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed store goals related to sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink.
• Drive company profitability through operational excellence, sales growth, and expense control.
• Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling, maximize productivity, and achieve sales and payroll goals.
• Review and react to financial and operational reporting, including store visit and audit results.
• Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest service.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance and hold associates accountable to the attendance policy.
• Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent, addressing staffing needs and open positions.
• Build a highly engaged team through collaboration, communication, and prioritization of work.
• Support manager and associate professional development, including training, feedback, and performance reviews.
• Establish professional vendor partnerships to deliver on shipment and planogram expectations.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Execute operational focuses, including ad set processes, visual sets, planograms, and inventory life-cycle processes.
• Manage service, boutique, and store supply inventory and ordering processes.
• Protect company assets and minimize loss by ensuring store standards and operating procedures are met.
• Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology.
• Communicate business trends, opportunities, and challenges to field leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2-3+ years of fast-paced retail management or relevant work experience.
• Financial management experience: driving sales, interpreting data, managing payroll, and controlling expenses.
• Retail management experience: monitoring inventory, achieving operational excellence, and executing merchandising directives.
• Leadership management experience: attracting, developing, and motivating talent, and leading through change.

Skills

• Proficient with basic technology (POS system, Microsoft Office, Apple devices).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible/adaptable.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible, full-time schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Available to work Sundays and Mondays.
• Attend corporate meetings and conferences.

Working Conditions

• Continuous mobility throughout the store, including twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, and reaching.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs.
• Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies.
