Operations Manager

This position is based in Davie, Florida.

About the role

As the Operations Manager, you will report directly to the General Manager and oversee daily operations, including technical management of fleet maintenance and support activities. Responsibilities include planning, staffing, monitoring, and analyzing maintenance requirements, schedules, and contract compliance. You will direct and supervise the shop floor, ensuring employees observe work rules and safety practices while maintaining overall work performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
• Performs maintenance management functions as directed by contract language.
• Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure all operation service requirements are met.
• Tracks, compiles, and analyzes performance; handles interdepartmental issues; resolves employee issues and grievances; improves processes and route scheduling.
• Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates the work performance of staff; ensures timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
• Assists in accident/incident investigation, including on-site support to safety and training personnel.
• Works directly with fleet management to respond to maintenance requirements.
• Coordinates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety goals and directives are met.
• Develops the Operations department budget.
• May operate a vehicle in revenue service if necessary.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) required.
• 3 or more years of relevant transit supervisory experience required.
• Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
• Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and relevant database programs.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with labor, including handling labor grievances and negotiations.
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day).
• Frequently walk for long distances on potentially sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
• Push and pull objects up to XX pounds occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
• Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment stored at ground level.
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
