Operations Manager
About the role
This role is designed for someone eager to grow into an independent operations leadership position. As an Operations Manager Trainee (OMT), you will learn the skills and company knowledge needed to run a financially viable PDS-supported dental office. You will own your professional development through the OM Development Program, completing structured curriculum, on-the-job practice, and regular development meetings with your supervisor. The expectation is that you will be ready to independently manage a dental office within 4–6 months of completing the program.
Responsibilities
- Model company culture, values, and best operational practices using the We Believe Behavioral Framework; foster a daily environment that reflects PDS culture and values
- Assess, hire, and retain the right team members through comprehensive training, supervision, counseling, and coaching
- Assess, investigate, and resolve staff and patient issues by analyzing facts and circumstances to develop timely, effective, logical, and creative solutions
- Execute the PDS Operational Model consistently to meet identified office imperatives in partnership with the Owner Dentist
- Drive year-over-year revenue and profit growth
- Manage expenses to achieve monthly goals and budget targets
- Show proficiency and adherence to cash management and accounting protocols
- Lead the team in developing the Perfect Patient Experience
- Deliver effective leadership, coaching, and mentoring to identify and implement improvement opportunities
- Maintain open communications with direct supervisors, building trust-based relationships and raising issues early
- Present a professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies; interact respectfully with others
- Gain proficiency with tools and resources for people-related functions, including assessment, hiring, retention, performance evaluation, separation processes, and compensation guidance
- Ensure compliance with company policies and with state, federal, and other regulatory requirements
- Report weekly to the Regional Manager detailing accomplishments, areas for improvement, clear performance goals, and system effectiveness
- By the end of the development program, demonstrate competency in managing both front-office and back-office teams with strong leadership and team development capabilities
- Develop and implement an office success plan, including staff development and office protocols to ensure efficient operations during manager absences
- Perform other duties as assigned by your direct supervisor that improve team member development outcomes
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five or more years of related work experience in operational management
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance (verified via motor vehicle record check at hire)
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to multiple offices per day, sometimes several times per day; travel may be planned or unplanned and is subject to change without notice
In lieu of a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, reliable alternate transportation that allows for required, timely travel to multiple offices per day is acceptable.

- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree

Requires knowledge of dental plans, insurance fees, administrative guidelines, limitations and exclusions, reporting systems, business correspondence, business reporting techniques, and business principles of profit and loss statements.
Skills include proficiency with Microsoft applications, Epic, 1VU, BOX, and standard office equipment.

Work Environment
This is primarily a sedentary office role with occasional field visits and driving. The environment is temperature-controlled with no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances; noise levels are usually low to moderate, with occasional exposure to upset team members, vendors, or patients.
Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, keyboarding, handling materials, reaching, seeing, talking, and hearing. The role occasionally requires lifting or carrying materials up to 40 pounds and performing stooping, kneeling, bending, or crouching. Finger dexterity is needed for computer and office equipment use.

Pay
Upon completion of the Operations Manager training program, this role converts to a salaried position. Compensation range: $25.25–$35.25 per hour.
