About the role
The Operations Manager will oversee all daily operations of the branch plant from dispatch, project scheduling, branch employees, and branch reporting. The Operations Manager also ensures policies and procedures are followed and develops processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed customer expectations, maintain and increase production, minimize unnecessary costs, maintain current quality standards, and ensure all safety standards are met.
- Be responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time delivery.
- Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
- Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
- Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
- Manage branch employees, recruit, manage, and develop current branch staff.
- Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime.
- Commit, implement, and maintain all safety standards.
- Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
- Address employee issues or grievances, coach, train, and discipline.
- Stay up to date with the latest production management best practices and concepts.
- Effective communication with customers.
Requirements
- Proven work experience as a branch manager in a similar field with managerial experience.
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources).
- Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise.
- Knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory, and stewardship processes.
Skills
- Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces, and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Working from elevated platforms, ladders, or truck beds.
- Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smartphones, physical agility to use arms, legs, and hands repetitively.
- Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high-speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes, and construction substances.
- Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction sites including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees, and construction activities.
- Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans.
- Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone.
- Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor.
- Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime, and working individually and as a team with other employees.
- Valid driver's license required, will require passing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
- Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record, and controlled substance/drug testing.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
- Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
