Purpose
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall performance, efficiency, and profitability of Distribution Center operations by providing strategic leadership across all operational functions. This role ensures the seamless flow of product while driving operational excellence, inventory accuracy, workforce development, and safety.
General Description of duties
- Operate across the DC, Customer service, and delivery as operation needs
- Spend approximately 80% of time actively present in the operations, leading continuous improvement and change initiatives firsthand
- Own full P&L-level accountability for Distribution Center operations, providing strategic and day-to-day leadership across all functional departments
- Directly lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of Operations Supervisors, with indirect oversight of a workforce of associates across multiple shifts and departments
- Build and manage staffing plans, schedules, and labor budgets to align headcount and overtime with volume, seasonality, and service-level commitments
- Own end-to-end product flow through the facility, ensuring inbound receipt, put-away, prep, storage, and outbound delivery/pick-up all operate as one connected system rather than isolated departments
- Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators — staffing attainment, throughput, inventory accuracy, on-time and complete delivery, damage/defect rates, and safety incidents
- Partner cross-functionally with Customer Care, Sales, Merchandising, and 3rd-party delivery/carrier partners to ensure the Distribution Center supports a best-in-class experience for customers and showroom partners receiving product
- Drive continuous improvement by designing, documenting, and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), applying Lean/Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste and variability
- Review and resolve escalated order, inventory, and customer service issues; identify root causes and upstream trends to reduce recurring exceptions
- Manage inventory integrity through cycle counts, reconciliation, and shrink control across all departments
- Own facility safety culture: conduct routine walks, safety audits, and toolbox talks; ensure OSHA and company safety standards, PPE compliance, and safe operation of powered industrial equipment
- Oversee facility security and readiness, including opening/closing procedures, perimeter checks, and alarm system management
- Manage capital equipment and material handling assets (forklifts, dock equipment, racking, RF/WMS technology), coordinating maintenance and replacement planning
- Plan for peak-season volume surges and promotional events, adjusting staffing, shift structures, and space utilization accordingly
- Analyze and report operational performance to senior leadership, translating data into actionable recommendations
