Operations Manager
About the role
Howmet Structure Systems – Martinsville Operations is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the manufacturing organization to safely deliver or exceed the financial plan, while increasing product quality. The Operations Manager will report to the Plant Manager and be measured on both financial and non-financial indicators directly related to safety, quality, employee engagement, on-time delivery, and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example and use human performance tools to promote a culture of safety and welfare of employees
- Manage leading and lagging indicators and determine linked actions to reduce risk in the workplace
- Set a high standard for ethics and compliance, ensuring business processes adhere to business conduct policies and procedures
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to increase safety, efficiency, productivity, cost, yield improvement, scrap reduction, and customer delivery
- Lead manufacturing operations in accordance with company policies, goals, and objectives
- Develop and execute lean and flexible production systems based on Continuous Improvement principles
- Execute plans for quality and process excellence to ensure consistent quality assurance and process excellence procedures, controls, and feedback
- Lead a multi-disciplined plant team in meeting monthly forecasts and all appropriate business metrics
- Manage an effective team, including hiring, motivating, evaluating, developing, and counseling with career development
- Adhere to operational budgets and coordinate capital plans, appropriation requests, and project follow-up
- Establish goals and metrics to drive improvement and refine activities as needed
- Champion a clear channel of communication and coordination between cross-functional counterparts and external partners
- Ensure effective business unit systems, procedures, and financial controls are established and maintained
Qualifications
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in plant operational management. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
- Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related field, with an MBA being a plus
- Metal, Forging, and maintenance background is a plus
- Seven plus years in a supervisory/management role with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Formal training in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma is preferred
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office, with experience with SAP being a plus
